VACANCIES

 

Applications are invited from the citizens of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka who possess the requisite qualifications to fill the following vacancies of the Sugarcane Research Institute at Uda Walawe.

 

01. Principal Research Officer (HM 1-3) – 03 positions

 

(Subject area: Plant Breeding, Soil and Plant Nutrition, Plant Protection, sugar Mill Technology, Food Technology, Fermentation Technology, By-products Processing Technology & Farm Mechanization Technology)

 

Qualifications :

External :

A four-year degree in Science/Agriculture/Engineering with a class from a university recognized by the U.G.C.

WITH

A PhD Degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university.

AND

At least 15 years of research and management experience in a recognized organization, of which 5 years should be after obtaining PhD degree and at senior research/managerial level with proven track record.

 

Internal :

A PhD degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university

AND

Five (5) years post-qualifying experience as a Senior Research Officer.


02. Principal Technology Transfer Officer – (HM 1-3) – 01 position

 

Qualifications :

External :

A four-year degree in Agriculture with a class from a university recognized by the U.G.C.

WITH

A PhD Degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university.

AND

At least 15 years of extension and management experience in a recognized organization, of which 5 years should be after obtaining PhD degree and at senior research/managerial level with proven track record.

 

Internal :

A PhD degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university.

AND

Five (5) years post-qualifying experience as a Senior Technology Transfer Officer.


03. Senior Technology Transfer Officer (AR 2) – 01 Position

 

Qualifications:

External :

a. A four-year special degree with a first or second class (upper division) in Agriculture from recognized University.

OR

b. A four-year special degree with a second class lower in Agriculture from a recognized University and a minimum of one-year postgraduate degree in Agricultural Extension.

OR

c. A degree in Agriculture from a recognized university and a two-year postgraduate research degree in Agricultural Extension.

AND

A PhD degree in Agricultural Extension and eight years experience in extension activities after obtaining first degree.

 

Note: Publications relevant to Agricultural Extension will be an added qualification.

 

Internal:

A PhD with at least eight years experience as a Technology Transfer Officer

OR

An MPhil /MSc (Two -year research degree) with 10 years experience as a Technology Transfer Officer [NB: An applicant who qualifies under (b) or (c) above should obtain an additional postgraduate degree by research to be eligible for STTO]

 

Note: Publications relevant to Agricultural Extension will be an added qualification.


04. Development Officer : JM 1-2 – (01 position)

 

Qualifications:

External :

A BSc degree in Agriculture/Plantation Management from a recognized university. 

AND

Minimum of three (03) years proven experience in extension and/or development activities in a Government Department/Corporation/Statuary Board or recognized private sector Organization.

 

Internal :

A Diploma in Agriculture from a recognised Institution and a minimum of 05 years relevant experience as a Management Assistant Technological Category in Grade I.


05. Tractor Driver (PL 3) – 01 position

 

Qualifications:

External :

Having passed six (06) subjects in G.C.E (O/L) examination, at least with two (02) credit passes in maximum of two sittings.

AND

A valid License to drive heavy vehicles and minimum of five years experience in driving heavy vehicles in a reputed establishment. 

 

Internal :

A valid License to drive heavy vehicles and minimum of three years experience in driving after obtaining the driving license.

AND

 Minimum of five years satisfactory service in Primary Level Semi-skilled or un-skilled (PL 1, PL 2)


06. Mason/Plumber – 01 position

 

Qualifications:

External :

Having obtained proficiency certificate not below than the National Vocational Qualification level four (04) issued by a technical/vocational training institute accepted by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, relevant to the function of each post. (Relevant field for each post should be clearly mentioned.)

 

Internal :

(1 or 2 below)

1. Having obtained the qualifications required by the external candidates above.

2. Employees in Primary Level Semi Skilled (PL 2) or Un-skilled (PL 1) who have completed a minimum of five (05) years working experience in the relevant field with the skills not below than the National Vocational Qualification Level two (2), proven at a trade test.


Age Limit (On the date of closing applications):

 

Should be not less than 35 years and not more than 55 years. The upper age limit will not apply to candidates from Government Departments, Corporations and Statuary Boards and internal candidates. (only for HM 1-3 salary category)

 

Should be not less than 25 years and not more than 45 years. The upper age limit will not apply to candidates from Government Departments, Corporations and Statutory Boards and internal candidates. (only for AR-2 salary category).

 

Should be not less than 18 years and not more than 45 years. The upper age limit will not apply to candidates from Government Departments, Corporations and Statutory Statuary Boards and internal candidates. (JM 1-2 & PL 3 salary categories)


Salary Code and the Scales:

HM 1-3 – 2016  – Rs. 86865 – 15×2270 – 120915/- (Present gross salary Rs. 79617 /-)

AR 2 – 2016       – Rs. 76200-10×2000- 96200/- (Present gross salary Rs.70340 /-)

JM 1-2-2016       – Rs. 43355-10×755-18×1135-71335/- (Present gross salary Rs. 42868 /-)

PL 3 – 2016         – Rs. 26290–10×270– 10 x 300 – 10 x 330 – 12 x 350 – 39490/- (Present gross salary Rs. 33121/-)

 

Method of Selection:

Principal Research Officer/Senior Principal Technology Transfer Officer – By a structured interview

Senior Technology Transfer Officer – By a structured interview

Development Officer – On the results of a written competitive examination and a structured interview.

Tractor Driver – On the results of a written competitive examination and a structured interview.

Mason Plumber – On the results of a written competitive examination and a structured interview.

 

Other Benefits:

In addition to the salary, government approved allowances will be paid.

In lieu of transport facilities, government approved allowances will be paid. (Only for HM 1-3 salary category)

Medical benefits are available according to prevailing rules of the Institute’s Medical Scheme.

Rent-free quarters will be provided, if available.

 

Provident Fund:

The employee will be required to contribute 10% of the salary to the Employees’ Provident Fund while the Institute will contribute 15%. The Institute will also contribute 3% to the Employees’ Trust Fund.

 

General Conditions:

Transferable to any part of Sri Lanka
